About us

Sooo who are we? We are two sisters, both born in Bologna and raised in a town on Lake Maggiore, in Italy. We 're quite different from each other but with one thing in common: a great passion for travelling. Our conversations are always about planning travels to new destinations. For this reason we managed to visit 40 countries in the short time of our lives (we are now 19 and 23 years old). When we were little, every time we were in a new place we liked to discover hidden corners and streets. Our dad was the “Chief Explorer”, Angelica was “Explorer Number 1” and Celeste, the little sister, was “Explorer Number 2”.

We have been travelling since we can remember but started to understand the real value of it when we both grew up and started being interested in different cultures and ways of living as well as art and architecture. The first trip we can remember in which we were so keen to explore was our road trip in the USA, a few years ago. We visited the West Coast (LA, Las Vegas, San Francisco, the Death Valley, Yosemite etc.) and then flew to Hawaii. We didn’t stop walking for three weeks and never got tired. Traveling makes us feel truly alive and makes us feel a sense of purpose. Traveling completely changed our perception of the world, turned upside down our ‘truths’ and taught us not to judge anything or anyone without knowing their story in-depth.

It also made us want to develop by learning different languages (we speak four so far), networking with the most diverse people, learning from them and becoming completely independent and adaptable. This probably wouldn’t have happened if we had spent our whole lives in one place.

One encounter that impressed us a lot was when we went to Malaysia and we decided to pay a local tour guide to show us around for the whole of our journey. It made such a difference to have a local taking us to the best spots and restaurants, making us try local delicacies and telling us stories about the places we went to. It was also very useful to have him as an interpreter when communicating with people. What mostly got stuck in our minds was the story of his life. He gave up getting married and having a family in order to show people his country and to make sure Malaysia got the attention it deserved. His lifestyle of constant moving around and to bring tourists to different places in the country didn’t allow him to settle down.

We obviously don’t think there is a right or wrong choice in terms of lifestyle, but we think that his ‘sacrifice’ is a very respectable and hard choice. People like our guide in Malaysia allow cultures to connect and prejudice to slowly disappear.

If all people in the world would be able to travel more there would certainly be more respect and understanding of other cultures and differences would be seen as a resource instead of something some people are scared of. A crime committed from a single man would not be considered a fault of his cultural background and innovation would be brought forward through cooperation of a wide range of brains.

So far, we have been able to travel very often with the financial help of our parents or with money gained through part-time jobs (babysitting, summer camps etc). We travel a lot with them as our mum only works part-time and our dad has his own business.

Only in 2016 we have been to Germany, the UK, Spain, Bulgaria, the USA, Iceland and got to know our beautiful country, Italy, a bit better. Obviously travelling is not always easy due to financial reasons, to be able to afford that we need to save on other things such as a new car or a new laptop but we are absolutely willing to do that. Our lifestyle also sometimes brought us conflicts with our oldest friends because we move so much and don’t get to see them a lot. We now know that the people who stayed by our side are the ones that count.

The moment that made us completely fall in love with traveling was when we both moved abroad and gained our independence. We gained a completely different perspective and understood that the best way to discover this world is not to just visit as tourists but to truly understand the mindset of different people.

Here are our stories...

Celeste - Lived in Italy, Oxford & Leeds (UK), East Machias (Maine, US)

When I was 17, I decided to attend my second to last year of High School abroad, so I spent 6 months in Maine studying in an American High School and living in a dormitory with students from different parts of the world. After getting the American Diploma, I wanted bigger challenges and was too hooked to that life to go back to my Italian school! So the following year I moved to Oxford to attend a University Preparation Programme. I lived with an Indian host mother and two other students. In September 2017 I moved to Leeds to start studying Business & Marketing at University. Already dreaming about my year abroad ✈

Angelica - Lived in Italy, Cambridge,  Bath, Chichester (UK), Hamburg & Frankfurt (Germany)

After finishing High School in Italy, I moved to Cambridge (UK) to attend a University Preparation Programme. I lived with an English host family with two adorable children and students from Colombia, France, China and Taiwan. After that, I started studying International Management and German at the University of Bath. Bath is an amazing city with an international vibe and gave me friends from all different backgrounds. I spent my third year working in Germany (Hamburg and Frankfurt) learning loads about their language and way of being. I now live in Chichester (UK) for my graduate job and will move cities every 6 months for 2 years. Really excited about it!
